You can schedule your test a week ahead of the test date, with booking options from Monday to Saturday during each test period. Your results will be ready in 6 days.

OET Structure 

Now, let’s understand the OET four sub-tests according to specific aspects of communication in a healthcare environment.

1. OET Listening: 45 Minutes

Number of Questions: 42
Divided into 3 parts:
- Part A: Consultation extracts
- Part B: Short workplace extracts
- Part C: Presentation extracts

2. Reading: 60 Minutes 

Number of Questions: 42 
Part A: Expeditious reading tasks (20 marks) 
Part B: Short workplace texts (6 marks) 
Part C: Longer healthcare-related texts (16 marks)

3. Writing: 45 Minutes 

The test is marked by OET assessors using six assessment criteria. The test-takers have the task of writing a referral, transfer, or discharge letter based on the provided case notes in this test.

4. Speaking: Approximately 20 minutes 

The test is recorded, and the audio is marked by two official OET assessors using their official assessment criteria.

Role-play: Engage in a profession-specific role-play (5 minutes each) with an interlocutor acting as a patient or patient companion.

Scoring System 

Each section of OET is scored on a scale of 0-500 in ten-point increments (e.g., 350, 360, 370) assigned with A to E, with letter A as highest and E as the lowest: 

A (450–500): Fluent and effective English communication with patients.
B (350–440): Fluent and effective English communication with occasional inaccuracies.
C (300–340): Can communicate, but with difficulty.
Below 300: Communication needs improvement because there is significant difficulty.

NOTE:

Most regulatory bodies require at least a B in each section, with some accepting a C+ in specific skills. However, you must check the score requirements on the regulatory body’s website and prepare accordingly.
From 29 January 2025, OET has introduced a new overall score showing the total scores from the 4 sub-tests to be provided after the candidate has finished all four sub-tests.
